Flibanserin is a centrally acting psychotropic medicine used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) or female sexual interest/arousal disorder in premenopausal women who have persistently low sexual desire causing distress and not explained by medical, psychiatric or relationship problems. Marketed under the brand name Addyi, it is the first FDA‑approved drug specifically for low sexual desire in women. Pharmacologically, flibanserin is a multifunctional serotonin agonist/antagonist that acts as a 5‑HT1A agonist and 5‑HT2A antagonist, leading to decreased serotonin and increased dopamine and norepinephrine in brain regions involved in sexual desire.
