Atomoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (sNRI) used primarily to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents, and adults. It works by increasing norepinephrine levels in the brain, which helps improve symptoms like lack of attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Unlike stimulant medications, atomoxetine has little abuse potential and can be used when stimulants are ineffective or cause bothersome side effects. It enhances executive functions such as self-motivation, attention, working memory, and emotional regulation. Atomoxetine is taken orally and usually takes 1 to 4 weeks to show initial effects, with full benefits visible after several weeks or longer.
